14 March, 2020 marked the most recent night that Ground Zero was open for dancing. One week later, we scrambled to put something together online so that the music could continue uninterrupted and we’d be able to still gather while listening to our favorite tunes and wait this thing out. While our first week wasn’t on Twitch, we moved to that platform the following week and have gained friends and listeners from all over the world. Since then, we have reliably shared music every Saturday, while also adding weekly shows on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays, as well as one-off shows when there’s something special to share.
This Saturday the 20th of March, 2021, we’re going to celebrate our one-year streaming anniversary with 24 hours of music streaming, starting at 5PM Central Daylight Time and running to the same time on the 21st. In addition to our usual Ground Zero DJs, we’ll be joined on this journey by guests Spider, Ellafine, Owen, Kangal, Tripwire, and Nitrogen. In addition to the Twitch stream, we’ll be running a concurrent Jitsi room for folks to visually hang out with each other and dance, login information will be provided in the Twitch chat during the stream.
While it’s been a difficult twelve months, having a place to virtually gather, share music, and chat with one another has been a way to keep sane, preserve some sense of normalcy, and continue to celebrate a passion that most of us share- a love for music. We’re grateful for all the time you’ve spent with us on this journey and all the support you’ve shown in helping this effort to continue. We look forward to hanging out all night with you soon.
